A group of social media and IT multi-nationals has united to pro­mote aware­ness of the boom­ing tech­no­logy sec­tor in Ire­land and the career pro­spects for tech­nical, busi­ness and multi-lingual professionals. Des­pite the eco­nomic down­turn, Ireland’s tech­no­logy sec­tor has con­tin­ued to exper­i­ence unpre­ced­en­ted growth res­ult­ing in a massive demand for skilled professionals. Com­pan­ies involved in the ini­ti­at­ive include Face­book, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Twit­ter and Intel. Ire­land, his­tor­ic­ally known for its high emig­ra­tion rate, has become a much more multi-cultural soci­ety. The num­ber of non-Irish nation­als liv­ing in the coun­try doubled from 5.8% of the pop­u­la­tion in 2002 to 12% today. Many of them are work­ing in Ireland’s tech sec­tor which employs 74,000 people dir­ectly and some 200,000 people indirectly. Skills in strongest demand include soft­ware developers, online mar­ket­ing experts, busi­ness ana­lysts and multi-lingual staff in sales, sup­port and cus­tomer service. There are approx­im­ately 4,500 open pos­i­tions in the sec­tor. This does not include the num­ber of roles that could be filled if more qual­i­fied pro­fes­sion­als were read­ily available. It’s been a fant­astic week in Ireland’s tech sec­tor. First ebay announces 450 new jobs. Then Face­book announces another 100 roles. HubSpot and FireEye to create 300 new jobs in Dublin and Cork
More good news for Ireland’s tech sec­tor: two darlings of the Inter­net industry announced 300 new jobs in one day. Fir­eEye, a soft­ware secur­ity firm, says it will setup a tech sup­port centre in Cork with the cre­ation of 150 new jobs. Mean­while in Dub­lin, Hub­Spot, the online mar­ket­ing plat­form, is cre­at­ing another 150 jobs in sales, sup­port, mar­ket­ing and soft­ware development.
