A group of social media and IT multi-nationals has united to promote awareness of the booming technology sector in Ireland and the career prospects for technical, business and multi-lingual professionals. Despite the economic downturn, Ireland’s technology sector has continued to experience unprecedented growth resulting in a massive demand for skilled professionals. Companies involved in the initiative include Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Oracle, Symantec, Twitter and Intel. Ireland, historically known for its high emigration rate, has become a much more multi-cultural society. The number of non-Irish nationals living in the country doubled from 5.8% of the population in 2002 to 12% today. Many of them are working in Ireland’s tech sector which employs 74,000 people directly and some 200,000 people indirectly. Skills in strongest demand include software developers, online marketing experts, business analysts and multi-lingual staff in sales, support and customer service. There are approximately 4,500 open positions in the sector. This does not include the number of roles that could be filled if more qualified professionals were readily available. A website and social media campaign to promote the opportunities and lifestyle available has been created by Zartis.com, a recruitment software and marketing company. “Dublin has become one of the world’s leading tech hubs. There are fantastic career opportunities for people with IT, business and multi-lingual skills and it’s one of the best cities in the world to live in,” says John Dennehy, CEO of Zartis.com. ...>
